John L. Smith.
After the Evergreen school fire, John moved with his
parents to Marksville where his father became
principal of the elementary school there. John
received his BS and MS degrees at USL (ULL) and
later earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the
University of Maryland. He moved to Connecticut in
1969 where he worked as head microbiologist for a
large consumer products company for 23 years. He
took early retirement at 51 and opened an office for
alternative health and therapy which he maintained
for 10 years. Currently, John is living in
Branford, CT and teaches meditation at the Mercy
Center in Madison, CT. He is quite active in and
good health. He bikes, hikes, swims, gardens and
donates time to his condominium association and has
good times with friends. His other avocations are
sculpture, pottery and painting.
