Funeral Home in Marksville with Pastor
Clois Cole officiating. Burial will be
in the Vick Baptist Cemetery in Effie.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville. Mr. Best, 77, of Cottonport, passed away at his residence Tuesday, November 4, 2008.
He was a native of Kentucky, resident of Cottonport, former teacher and coach in Rapides Parish for many years, as well, as teacher, coach, counselor and principal of Cottonport High School from 1973-1987 and principal of Plaucheville Elementary for 8 years in Avoyelles Parish. He was an avid outdoorsman and civic leader. He served as President and Secretary of the Cottonport Service Club, President of Alexandria Area Football Officials Association,Avoyelles Sportsman League, Spring Bayou Bass Club, Director of Cottonport Boys and Girls Softball League and member of the Cottonport Industrial Development Board and American Legion Post. He was a United States Air Force Pilot, selected to the All Air Force Football and Baseball Teams and All Southeastern Conference Football Team.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Best of Cottonport, and daughter, Dawn Best- DesJardins of Baton Rouge, two brothers, Gene Best of Glasgow, Kentucky; Gay Best of Independence, Kentucky, numerous nieces, nephews, one cousin.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 6, 2008 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home.
