February 23, 2009

Dear Pelicans,

Nettie Jans, Evergreen Website/Reunion Treasurer, informs me that the Bayou Rouge Baptist Church Cemetery has 19 acres of beautiful azaleas nestled beneath the oaks and magnolias trees. To view the wonders of God’s creation, click on the picture of the Bayou Rouge Baptist Church, then the Welcome Page.  A visit to the website is second best to being there in person. Nettie Johnson Jans’ EHS Class of 1945 is pictured at the 1983 Reunion.

The February 13, 2009 Update was submitted without a picture of Clothide Mounger Quirk included in her obituary.  Also, the meeting with Stebo Pearce was highlighted without a picture being included.

To view pictures of Nettie, Clothide, and Stebo click on the Photo Gallery, REUNIONS 1983, and the appropriate year ( ’42, ’44, ’45). Click on a picture to enlarge it. Several class pictures from the ‘40, ’30s, 1924, and 1915 have been posted and some adjusted.

I met with James “Tut” Turner last Thursday and he is preparing the song “Evergreen” for posting on the website. You may recall James wrote the lyrics and melody for the song and also led the Evergreen chorus as they sang it at the 1990 reunion.  Thanks, Tut.
