Raymond Joseph DucoteRaymond Joseph Ducote passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 in Mansura, LA. Raymond was born on June 7, 1928 in Cottonport, LA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011 at 11:00 am at Church of the Little Flower - 2912 Main St. - Evergreen, LA. Services will be conducted by Fr. Bartholomew Ibe. Entombment will take place in Church of the Little Flower Cemetery under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.

Raymond, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, lived in Evergreen, LA. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Amanda Gremillion Ducote and five children; Richard Ducote and wife, Joy, of Lafayette; Julienne Spencer and husband, Tracy, of Evergreen; Wayne Ducote and wife, Susan, of New Iberia; Joel Ducote and wife, Laura, of Plaquemine; and Anita Gabriel and husband, Scott, of Lake Mary, Florida; ten grandchildren; Andre Spruill (husband, Bill), William Spencer (wife, Becky), Aimee Duplechin (husband, Shane), Wesley Ducote (wife, Chrissy), Ryan Ducote (wife, Staci), John Ducote (wife, Brittany), Lauren Ducote, Jennifer Little (husband, Josh), Brad Ducote, and Ann Gabriel; and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Eloise Guillory (husband, Allen), of Mansura, LA; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John Alvin Ducote of Cottonport, LA and Winnie Moreau of Cottonport, LA, and his brother, Anthony A Ducote. Raymond was a graduate of Southwestern Louisiana Institute of Lafayette, LA in Vocational Agricultural Education and later received a Master Degree in Education from USL , in Lafayette. He began his teaching career as a vocational agricultural teacher helping veterans returning from World War ll with the On the Farm Training Program; then at Evergreen High School in 1949 and at Cottonport High School for over 20 years; where he was also the F.F.A. and Beta Club Sponsor. He later taught special needs students at the Avoyelles Parish Vocational Training Center before he retired in 1979. As an active member at Church of the Little Flower, he served on several church councils, was a lector and usher. He served on the Evergreen Town Council for 27 years and was the Fire Chief for the Volunteer Fire Department in Evergreen. Raymond was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved spending time with his family, making a vegetable garden, picking pecans and enjoyed sharing the produce with neighbors and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Rio Sol Nursing Home in Mansura, Hospice Compassus of Alexandria and Avoyelles Hospital. Your loving care is greatly appreciated. Visitation will be held at Melancon Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 from 5 pm to 9 pm with a Christian Wake Service at 7 pm and Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011 from 8 am until 10:30 am.
