Lena, Jr. age 88, of Evergreen passed away on
Monday, July 18, 2011
at
Bunkie General
Hospital
. He was a sugar cane farmer in Evergreen and had been elected King Sucrose of
1963 for the Sugar Cane Festival in New Ibeia but had to decline the honor due
to family illness. He was also a US Army veteran of World War II, servng in the
African Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and the Philippine Liberation. He was
a past mayor of Evergreen and a member of the Knights of Columbus for sixty-two
years. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Vincent Lena, Jenny Lena
Patrick, Francis Lena Hatcher and Josephine Lena Wheat.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years,
Darnella Bowman Lena of Evergreen; one daughter, Frankie Jo Dichiara and
husband, Anthony, of Evergreen; one son, Frank Lena,

and wife, Cindy, of
Dallas
,
TX
and three grandchildren, Sunny Christie Lena, Blake Vincent Lena and Casey
Elizabeth Lena. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Vincent Lena, Jenny
Lena Patrick, Francis Lena Hatcher and Josephine Lena Wheat.
Visitation will be at Melancon Funeral Home,
Bunkie on
Wednesday, July 20, 2011
from
5 pm - 7 pm
with a Vigil for the Deceased at
6 pm
