A Mass of Christian Burial for Wittie Belle Newton Didier will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Fr. Scott Chemino officiating. Burial will be in the Pythian Cemetery under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.

Mrs. Didier, age 89, of Bunkie passed away on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at Bayou Vista Manor Nursing Center. She was born in Marksville on July 24, 1921 to Frederick and Bessie Bordelon Newton. Her family moved to Bunkie in 1927 and she graduated from Evergreen High School in 1937. She attended SLI, now known as University of Louisiana at Lafayette for one year. She was a parishoner of St. Anthony Catholic Church for more than sixty years, and a long-time member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the St. Anthony Altar Society. She was a Eucharistic Minister for the Bayou Vista Nursing Center and the home-bound for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.A. Didier, Jr.; a son, Steven James Didier; her parents; a sister, Earline Newton Gibson Keener and brothers, Marvin and Durwood Newton.

She is survived by two sons, Newton Robert Didier and wife, Maria, of Denver, CO and John Mark Didier and wife, Catherine, of Dalton, GA; one daughter, Linda Didier Todd and husband, Daniel, of New Orleans; three brothers, Fred "Pete" Newton and wife, Doris Nell, of Bunkie, Lloyd Newton and wife, Nancy, of Bunkie and Burton Newton and wife, Estelle, of Bunkie; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Newton and Margaret Newton of Bunkie; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. with a Vigil for the Deceased at 5 p.m. and on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 from 8 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. Please share sympathies, memories and condolences at www.melanconfunerals.com.
