Elday Mary Descant Latiolais, age 87, native of Cottonport

LATIOLAIS Elday Mary Descant Latiolais, age 87, died Friday, May 7, 2010 in her residence.

Mrs. Latiolais was a native of Cottonport, LA and a 63 year resident of Lake Charles, LA. She earned her Bachelor's of Science in Home Economics and Science from the University of Southwest Louisiana and Master's Degree in Education from McNeese State University. She was an active member the Delta Kappa Gamma, The Catholic Daughters Altar Society of Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Eucharistic Ministers Organization, Very Important Christians of Immaculate Conception Cathedral, and Lycieum Book Club of Lake Charles. She volunteered at Christus Saint Patrick's Hospital and St. Louis Catholic High School. She was an educator in Calcasieu, Avoyelles, and Vermillion Parishes.

Mrs. Latiolais leaves behind to cherish her memories, three sons: Dr. Steven Latiolais and wife Renee of Moss Bluff, LA, Dr. Thomas Latiolais of Bossier City, LA, and Joseph Latiolais and wife Theresa of Denver, CO; two daughters: Mary Lanier and husband Rickey of Lake Charles, LA, and Judith Heiman and husband Meyer of Mandeville, LA; one brother, Lee Descant of Marksville, LA; fourteen grandchildren: Lisa Collins and husband Justin of New Orleans, LA, Rebecca Wilmore and husband Charles of Metairie, LA, Jonathan Heiman and wife Lauren of Mobile, AL, Kristen Heiman of New Orleans, LA, Stephanie Latiolais of Fayetteville, AR, Melanie Davis and husband Nathan of Coushatta, LA, Emily Latiolais of Moss Bluff, LA, Philip Latiolais of Lake Charles, LA, Justin Lanier of Brooklyn, NY, Adrienne Lanier of Falls Church, VA, Christopher Lanier of Lake Charles, LA, Heather Eure and husband George of Austin, TX, Jared Latiolais of Shreveport, LA, and Maria Latiolais of Shreveport, LA; and three great-grandchildren: Adriana Wilmore, Lucy Collins, and Reagan Davis.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Latiolais; parents: Albert and Melanie Descant; three brothers: Edison, Eddie and Pete Descant; and three sisters: Ena Sonnier, Anna Kevlin, and Edna Kraus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Cathedral with burial to follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Monday, May 10, 2010 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a Vigil Service at 6:00 P.M. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Christus St. Patrick's Children's Miracle Network in honor of Poddy Champeaux.
